Rigbook nicely meets my needs for a ham radio logging app. Currently it is configured to specifically serve the needs of a POTA hunter and SKCC operator.
Rigbook came about because of my own desires for a all-in-one logger for my current operating style from my primary station. Much of ham radio software is built for Windows. I use linux primarily for desktop applications. For general logging and POTA hunting, I had been using HAMRS which supports Linux nicely. For SKCC logging had been using SKCCLogger. What I desired was a single app that would support both nicely. I was very satisfied with the rig control of HAMRS (configured with flrig). I tried mightily to get rig control working in both HAMRS and SKCC simultaneously, that was a challenge with way too many barriers.
While expressing my frustration, my son Ryan McGuire, AI7XP, said, "Well why don't we just make our own logging app? Write me a specification!"
I was astounded at the suggestion. Watching him work with modern AI coding practices, I gained real insight into the transformations that software development is going through! The initial, core functionality was working within hours, and we were underway to developing a worldclass app efficiently.
I use rigbook everyday, and its efficiency makes my ham radio operations more fun.
